Chenereilles On the shores of Lac de Lavalette

Chenereilles, the gentlest village in the Haut-Lignon, with an altitude of 806 m at its highest point of 956 m, is a small haven of peace.

Chenereilles offers you a peaceful stay in the heart of nature. The village is just a few kilometers from Tence, so all services and leisure activities are close at hand.

To discover

 Lake Lavalette

At an altitude of between 806 m and 956 m, Chenereilles sits on a belvedere overlooking the Pic du Lizieux, and is very close to the Lac deLavalette , classified as a mid-range mountain resort, where the leisure center offers a full range of water sports activities.

 Pigeonnier de Joux

Discover the local heritage: the church built from Cévennes granite cubes, the Béates houses, the Château de la Borie and its 16th-century keep (private), the Tour de Joux, roadside crosses, bachas and drinking troughs

You’ll also see the pigeon loft at Château de Joux (private), a tower in the middle of the forest.

 Château de La Borie

A fortified house built during the Wars of Religion in the 17th century, with few windows for protection, and a round defensive tower heeled at the base containing the spiral staircase leading to the upper floors.

Set in a park planted with century-old trees and surrounded by farm buildings rebuilt in the late 18th and 19th centuries, Château de La Borie was classified as a Historic Monument in 1972.
The château can be visited during the European Heritage Days.
You can walk past it on the De Chenereilles à Lavalette circuit.

A little history

In 1948, the entire village of Piboulet was wiped off the map, swallowed up by the waters of the Lignon to fill the brand-new Lavalette dam.

Each time the dam level drops, the remains of this hamlet resurface, allowing us to step back in time.
150 people worked here at the time, in three mills, two sawmills and mills.

The spectacle is ephemeral, but well worth the detour.
