Le Haut-Lignon, a land of excellence for champions

Situated at an altitude of 1,000 meters, Haut-Lignon offers an ideal setting for the physical preparation of top-level athletes. Whether it’s rugby, soccer, cycling, fishing or hot-air ballooning, athletes find here an exceptional natural environment conducive to oxygenation and high-altitude training. The clean air and unspoilt landscapes of the Mézenc basalt plateau and the Lignon valley make this region a popular location for pre-season training and fitness.

Champions choose Haut-Lignon not only to optimize their physical condition, but also to enjoy a unique natural setting, combining performance and rejuvenation.

1. Passion ovalie

Although Haut-Lignon was originally a football-enthusiast’s homeland, many top rugby clubs and teams have come here to train!

As early as 2007, the Portuguese national team came to France for the Rugby World Cup from August 30 to September 24, 2007.

In July 2011, the French national team came to France to prepare for the World Cup, with 2 training sessions open to the public that sold out to over 4,000 spectators on July 14 and 17, 2011, player autographs and the Beach Rugby Tour, with a qualitative stage of the French Championship on July 16, 2011.

In June 2015, the ASM team came to prepare for the Top 14 final.

3. Round balloons... twice the fun!

From August 24 to 29, 2010, the Haut-Lignon region hosted the 36th French hot-air balloon championship, with Lignon et Sucs, terre d’envol. But it’s above all football players who occupy the lawns of the Chambonnais stadium during the year-round oxygenation and cohesion courses offered since 1998 byHôtel Bel Horizon, and in particular its sports-loving manager, Guillaume Chazot.

Numerous Division 1 and 2 soccer teams have put their trust in our expertise, warm welcome and local facilities for their green breaks!

AS Saint-Etienne, AC Ajaccio, RC Lens, Lille, Nîmes Olympique, FC Grenoble, Clermont Foot, SC Toulon, Dijon… have been coming for a long time.

4. To be peachy

The Haut-Lignon has long been renowned for its upper Lignon valley, a Natura 2000 listed area that is a perfect playground for fishing enthusiasts. From the very beginnings of tourism, the gorges du Lignon have delighted fly-fishermen, and many restaurants have featured their specialities on their menus: crayfish soufflé, trout meunière, frogs’ legs, friture du jour, etc.

Thanks to the quality of the courses, in May 2007, the region hosted the French Junior Fly Fishing Championship.
