With 200 km of river for nature vacations, Le Lignon in Haute-Loire is the 1st tributary of the Loire. It crosses our territory from its source at the foot of the Mézenc to the Lavalette dam. The banks of the Lignon are classified as a Natura 200 zone. This classification recognizes Le Lignon as a particularly remarkable natural heritage in Europe, due to the habitats and rare species it still shelters.
4 species are protected here:
- Pearl mussel
- European beaver
- European otter
- White-clawed crayfish.
The Lignon is accessible via a number of fishing trails that run alongside the river. And don’t forget the Lignon gorges between Tence and Le Chambon-sur-Lignon. Between waterfalls and eddies, the waters of the Lignon are sometimes slow, sometimes turbulent… you’ll be in osmosis with nature.
