Passion fruits rouges Berries grown at 1000 meters altitude

Sunshine, wide open spaces and pure air are the ingredients for the incomparable fragrance and color of red berries. Mmmh… Get ready to taste the strawberries of your childhood!

Red berries

The cultivation of red fruit, which began in the 60s and was developed in the 90s by local farmers to diversify, is a gourmet staple of the Haut-Lignon region. Cool nights and warm days produce fruit of excellent quality: both firm and sweet! Strawberries, raspberries, redcurrants (red, white or gooseberry), blackberries, blackcurrants and blueberries are produced at altitudes of between 700 and 1150 meters, hence the name “ mountain produce “.

The producers practice integrated agriculture, although some have also converted to organic farming. Saint-Jeures is home to a major producers’ group.

The main varieties :

  • Strawberries: Cijosée, Mara des bois
  • Raspberries: Meeker, Tulameen,
  • Currants (red, white or gooseberry)
  • Blackberries: Loch Ness, Loch Tay, Chester
  • Blueberries: Darrow
  • Blackcurrants: Neva, Ben Tirran

Did you know?

What is the gooseberry’s other name?

Answer: “the balloon” because, unlike other varieties of gooseberry, they don’t grow in bunches but are isolated on the branch.
