Gorges du Lignon footbridge

France’s longest footbridge

The gorges du Lignon are at the heart of our territory, and in places they seem impassable, but that would be without counting the gorges du Lignon Himalayan footbridge between Grazac and Saint-Maurice-de-Lignon, in the Sucs region. At 268 metres, it is the longest footbridge in France.

For thrill-seekers...

Even if for some, the passage over the void (78 meters above the river) will probably be a formality, this hike is a must!

Well-booted, with water in your flask and the weather checked, it’s up to you to take the giant step over this sometimes tumultuous river, with its deep gorges rising from Mont Mézenc.

Choose your departure village… Grazac or Saint-Maurice-de-Lignon for a round trip.

For a bucolic but sporty start!

3.6 km / 87 m ascent / 1h20 one way

From Saint-Maurice-de-Lignon, start from the park of Château de Maubourg, which you’ll have to cross to reach the footbridge path… You can admire the château’s orangery, an old tower, the ice house or the remarkable treesThe English-style park invites you to daydream in all seasons, with a tour of the park bordered by ponds, ideal for a family picnic, snack or jog.

Toilets, snack bar, children’s playground, petanque area, on-site parking, authorized parking for motorhomes during the day.

Once on site, take advantage of the footbridge and the panoramic views over the Lignon gorges. For those who don’t want to cross, you can admire the view from a promontory on the Saint-Maurice-de-Lignon side.

The gradient is steep on the way down, and will be on the way back too 😉 but it’s worth it…

For an easy start from the village of Grazac

2.9 km / 95 m ascent / – one hour

From the village of Villedemont, there are several free parking lots, and all you have to do is follow the signs for the Passerelle (footbridge) to descend into the gorge and reach the footbridge. It would be a shame to leave the village without seeing the church and the Cluniac priory.

This is a sensitive natural site, so :

  • Don’t throw anything out! Take your garbage with you!
  • Watch out for your cigarette butts…
  • Stay on the path
  • Please keep your dogs on a leash, as some are afraid of heights.
  • If you’re on a bike, you’ll have to cross the footbridge on foot.

Not recommended in bad weather, wind, snow, storms, etc.
