A jewel nestled in the heart of the Auvergne Rhône-Alpes region and capital of the Chemins de Saint-Jacques, Le Puy-en-Velay is a must-see, just a 40-minute drive from the Haut-Lignon.

Shaped by volcanism, Le Puy-en-Velay boasts emblematic monuments between heaven and earth: the statue of Notre Dame de France, the rock of Saint-Michel d’Aiguilhe, as well as the Cathedral and Hôtel-Dieu, listed as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO as part of the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela.

      Here you’ll find farm products such as mountain charcuterie, lentils (a lentil museum is due to open in autumn 2025) and the famous “artisou”, Velay’s farmhouse cheese!

      A walk  On foot or by train?

      Discover this Unesco World Heritage Site on the Pilgrim’s Way to Santiago de Compostela:

      • the cathedral via the rue des Tables,
      • the statue of Notre Dame de France,
      • the Romanesque cloister (11th and 12th c.),
      • the rock and St Michel chapel,
      • the Penitents chapel

      Take the little train from Place Michelet for a 45-minute guided tour.
