Pottery workshop
Here, a large table with 2 different levels occupies a large part of the workshop, along with a host of finished and future creations. Pots of all colors pile up here and there in regular disorder, along with towers, stools and ready-to-use clay. At the back, small figurines stand alongside engraved bowls, flowery decorations and all manner of vases, plates, cups, etc. Raw, decorated or glazed, the pieces await a taker or the artist’s hand to metamorphose.
It’s in this rudimentary yet poetic world that Emma will be introduced to the potter’s craft, in the company of two other children and a mother accompanying them. Too young to learn the wheel technique, she must choose a model to make: a small bowl, a vase, a figurine, etc. Hannah, the young assistant, will accompany them through the various stages. Depending on the desired result, the clay will be worked, smoothed or rolled into balls. Marie-Laure explains that her work requires a lot of energy, and in particular muscular arms and precise gestures, to create beautiful objects from the clay.
All the senses are awakened here: the softness of the clay, the sun beaming through the workshop, the smell of the earth, calm and concentration. Once the workshop is over, Marie-Laure and Hannah will fire Emma’s creations, a small bowl and a small sculpture at high temperature. Treasures to be picked up in a few days!
Clay is soft and pleasant… I can’t wait to see my finished creations and come back for another workshop! – Emma
