Reading under the tree
At an altitude of 1,000 meters, every year in mid-August aweek of readings and meetings is devoted to contemporary poetry at Le Chambon-sur-Lignon, in a magical, timeless natural setting: Cheyne.
The association, Typographie et poésie, founded by Jean-François Manier, invites some thirty authors to take part in the event, which each year features a different country, artist and publisher.
The program includes some sixty varied events: readings, meetings, literary walks, film series and conferences on the guest country, shows, programs for young audiences, meals shared with authors…

Courses and workshops include: reading aloud with an actor, themed writing with an author, a translation workshop with a literary translator based on the guest country, and a poetic improvisation workshop.
For the very young, there’s a writing, illustration and printing workshop each led by a professional.
And what’s more, all this in an unspoilt, open-air setting!
This is truly a Festival for the curious, for avid readers and those less so, for lovers of words and books, but also for fans of exhibitions and musical events…
If you had to sum it up in one word, “unique”, this is one Festival you really shouldn’t miss.
